Specialised engineering services and consultancy in facade technology and steel structures.
The Casino Middelkerke project, also known as SILT, is a pioneering addition to the Belgian coast. This new casino building, designed by ZJA, Bureau Bouwtechniek and OZ Architects, won the prestigious International Architecture Award in 2022. The complex includes a casino, event hall, hotel and star restaurant, and is seamlessly integrated with the seafront and the Epernayplein in Middelkerke.
Facade Engineering
WB&E played a crucial role in the realisation of this innovative project by providing specialised engineering services and advice on facade technology and steel structures. Our company contributed to two key components of the project:
Contribution for Allaert Aluminium
For Allaert Aluminium, we provided extensive support for the curtain walls of the casino project. Our work included:
• Stability calculations: We performed stability calculations for the profiles and anchors of the curtain wall as well as the hotel windows with their reinforcement profiles.
• Glass calculations: We calculated the glass thickness and associated loads, including special calculations for glass supports due to the high glass weight.
• Design and detail drawings: We helped design and calculate the supports for the glass supports. We also produced detailed facade and ground plans as well as approval details for the control office.
• Complex façades: The project included three faceted façades and an elliptical, inclined façade, connected to an inclined skylight in the same shape. This required complex details to ensure watertightness and thermal insulation.
• Rooflights and fire-resistant patios: Our team drew out these designs, addressing complex details to ensure watertightness and thermal efficiency.
Contribution for TM Furnibo Democo
We provided various specialist services for TM Furnibo Democo, including:
• Strength calculations: We performed strength calculations for a Dekton-clad steel canopy.
• Concept details: We developed concept details for the canopy.
• Thermal simulation: We simulated the thermal behaviour of the canopy in case of fire, given its installation above escape doors and the required EI30 fire resistance.
